GM Darcy Regier was at it again today. Early in the afternoon, he shipped Steve Bernier to the Vancouver Canucks for a 3rd round pick in 2009 and a 2nd round pick in 2010. What seemed to be a very questionable deal at first later resolved itself with another trade with the Sharks. The 2nd round pick from the Bernier deal plus Buffalo’s own 2010 2nd round pick netted defenceman Craig Rivet plus a 2010 7th round pick. Rivet, 33, is a solid defensive defenceman the Sabres needed to bolster a blueline that was anything but physical. Moreover, he will make $3.5 million for the next three seasons. Great moves by Regier.
