Every year, Sabres fans ask this same question when it’s time for Darcy Regier’s to conduct year end player interviews and determine the organization’s course of action. Since the lockout ended, the very same fans become alienated with the team’s inability to keep prime talent and signing one-hit wonders to long term deals. Somebody tell me how locking up RFA Maxim Afinogenov to a 3 year deal was more important than UFA Jay McKee to a 4 year deal back in 2006. Granted, McKee hasn’t been the same player since he departed the Queen City, but neither has Afinogenov. Even so, not many former Sabres find success after leaving Buffalo.

It is currently 10pm EST, and I’m listening to streaming audio of Buffalo Sabres postgame show after being officially eliminating (finally) from playoff contention at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens. The host of the show is making it sound like an important military hero passed away, or La Nova ran out of chicken wings. Both are the same to a Western New Yorker.
So, let the finger pointing begin.
